Welsh is from Manhattan Beach, California and attended Loyola High School (Los Angeles) where he was a McDonalds All-American, Mission League Player of the Year as a senior, and a 2-time First Team All-Mission League player. He played his college ball at UCLA and was drafted by the Denver Nuggets in 2018 in the second round.
